These Special Projects are Scheduled to Fly at NARAM-56
- United Launch Alliance Student Intern Rocket Launch: The Intern Rocket Program is a partnership between United Launch Alliance and Ball Aerospace to provide a valuable hands-on learning experience for college interns and high school students. During college summer internships at ULA and Ball, interns can volunteer their time to build several rockets (ULA interns) and payloads (Ball interns). Participating interns have just eight to ten weeks to construct the rockets and payloads and quickly gain experience with new design concepts, manufacturing techniques and launch procedures. The rockets they build will be flown at NARAM-56.
High school students are encouraged to build payloads to fly aboard these massive rockets. If your school is interested, you can submit your payload proposal at the United Launch Alliance web site.
Do You Have A Special Project?
If you have an educational or research group, and you'd like to fly your rockets from our rocket range, we'd like to accommodate you and showcase your group on this web page. Please let us know by contacting us today. Tell us about your group, what your mission objective is, and the performance characteristics of your rockets. If you are planning a large high power rocket project (Level 3 or complex Level 2), please contact our Chief Sport Range RSO James Russell. We want to make sure that you will have the ground support you need and we want to coordinate the many flyers that will want to make large flights, particularly on the weekend.
Note: For the safety of the spectators and for insurance reasons, all rockets flown from Hudson Ranch must follow the NAR Model Rocket Safety Code or the NAR High Power Rocketry Safety Code and may only use NAR/TRA/CAR certified rocket engines.
Why Fly Your Group's Rockets At NARAM-56?
- 7000 acres of landing zone - This greatly increases the odds of getting your rocket back.
- State of the art launch equipment - We have the pads waiting to launch your rockets.
- Publicity - There will be thousands of people at NARAM-56, so news of your project will spread like wildfire.
- Technical Assistance - You'll be mingling with hundreds of the worlds smartest engineers and rocketeers. If you got a question, this is the place to get it answered.
- Supplies - There will be lots of rocketry vendors on site where you can purchase those last-minute parts, motors, and supplies that you need for a successful project.
- Safety - The Range Safety Officer's (RSO's) at NARAM-56 won't let you launch something unsafe. And we have back-up plans in place, with fire crews and medical staff on-site and the launch field.
- Spectacular weather - Summer in Colorado is nearly perfect. Typically, the morning starts out with crystal-clear blue skies, and visibilities that often exceeds 70 miles. The afternoons are just about as nice, but with a 20% chance of a light rain shower as the clouds form over the mountains to the west and slide off onto the plains to the east. Expect spectacular sunsets at night.
Want To Get Your High Power Certification At NARAM-56?
We consider Level 3 certification to be a special project. Please contact our Chief Sport Range RSO James Russell for our procedure on getting an L3 certification at NARAM.
If you want to go for your Level 1 or Level 2 High Power certification, you can do so on-site. Visit the "Information / Registration" tent when you arrive at the launch site for further instructions. Please review the NAR certification procedures, and have your rocket ready to go! "Motor vendors" will be on site where you can purchase a rocket motor for your certification attempt.
