NARAM2000

Looking to the East

When is NARAM2000 going to be held?

July 29 - August 4, 2000

Where is NARAM2000 going to take place?

The selected launch site is a few miles west of Estes Industries (Penrose) and 5 miles east of Canon City at the intersections of US Highway 50 and Colorado Highway 67 (N38d26m17s W105d06m49s, elevation 5,500 feet above sea level). This property has been graciously provided to us by the owner, Vern Estes.

Canon City Map

The map to the left is a MapQuest map of the Canon City area. The launch site is at the intersection of Highway 50 and Highway 67, approximately 4 - 5 miles from Canon City. We'll get some more detailed maps of the area on-line soon.

Looking to the North

Headquarters for the event will be located at the Canon Inn, located at 3075 E. Highway 50, Canon City, CO 81212. The Canon Inn is a full service hotel with two restaurants; one lounge; full banquet and meeting facilities; six hot tubs; a full size pool; and over 160 rooms. We don't yet have a firm price confirmation, but this years rates for the same time of year are about $73/night based on double occupancy. $68/night for singles. It is highly recommeded that you make your reservations early. You can call the Canon Inn at 719-275-8676 or toll free at 1-800-525-7727 (Fax: 719-275-8675). Make sure you tell them you're booking a room for NARAM2000 when you talk to them.

During the Month of July this area has an average high temperature of 93 degrees and a low of 61 degrees. The record high is 106, while the record low is 44. There is an average precipitation of 2.09 inches in the month of July, with nine days having some sort of precipitation.

Some Tips: You will want to get/bring good sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, closed toe shoes are recommended due to the small cactus in the area. Above all, drink lots of water - it's very easy to become dehydrated at this altitude.

Travel Considerations: If you'll be flying in, check out prices at all the airports (Denver International, Colorado Springs, Pueblo). It is often cheaper to fly from Colorado Springs (and it's closer) than it is Denver International.

What events will be held?

The sport launch starts the weekend before the contest and runs the entire seven days of the event. All launches will be limited to 1500 grams (3.3 lbs.) and 125 grams of propellant. Click here for more waiver information.
