Free Day
Great Meadow is only allowed to host a limited number of week-long events.
To get around that restriction, we break up NARAM-50 into two separate events,
with a free day in between. You can use that day to visit some of the
local attractions,
build models for the rest of the week, or just relax at the hotel.
The free day is currently scheduled for Wednesday, July 30, but may be moved
up to Monday or Tuesday in the unlikely event that bad weather is forecast.

Aurora Flight Sciences designs and builds robotic aircraft and other advanced
aerospace vehicles for scientific and military applications. Their corporate,
engineering and prototype fabrication offices are located at the Manassas
Regional Airport, about 5 miles from the meet hotel.
John Langford, Chairman and President of Aurora, is also a long-time NAR member
and has offered to host a tour of their Manassas facility on July 30 at 10 am.
We will have a signup sheet at registration for a maximum of 30 people to go
on the tour. Note that the same tours will be done several times during the
Old Rocketeer Reunion.

The Udvar-Hazy Center is an extension of the National Air & Space Museum and is
located near Chantilly, VA, approximately 10 miles from Manassas. The museum
houses 141 aircraft, 148 large space artifacts, and more than 1500 smaller
items. Major items include: SR-71 Blackbird, Space Shuttle Enterprise,
Enola Gay, Concorde. Admission is free, but there is a $12 parking fee.
Docent-led tours are offered throughout the day and start at the rear of the
SR-71 Blackbird. Tours are available for either the entire facility or just
focused on the space wing. No special arrangements are being made for NARAM-50
participants, so feel free to visit anytime.
