Today we went out to a local recreation site with a bunch of soccer fields. It was George Gassaway, Kevin Kuczek, and myself. They brought there S8 Rocket Gliders and a Histart to practice some "precison crash" as they like to call it. This comes from the change in the event from a pure duration who can stay up the longest to a 6 minute max flight time and land (or crash) as close to a ribbon on the ground as possible. Get your "nose" section within half a meter for 100 points and you lose a point for every second your over or under the 6 minute time limit (hence the "precision crash") which usually entails nose diving the plane to get in on time. They have learned that if your within 5 seconds its more important to not lose 50 points (you get 50 intead of 100 if your over half a meter) by landing too far from the line rather than be picky about landing on 6 mintues too precisely.
Here are a bunch of shots from this practice session. Later we went to dinner at the golden carral and on page two are some pictures from Registration tonight and the rocketeers floating around. the Hotel lobby and the registration room. We also stopped by the Field to set up the tents leaving less work to do saturday morning.
Over to the comfort inn (this is where Kevin is staying) then off to the practice field.
Its amazing what the mind misses when its focused. I would never in my life have noticed or remember noticing Kevin walking not 10 feet behind this glider shot I took. I only know he was there at all because I can not see him in this picture :-) I was just focused on the glider so everything else just "vanished" from my perception.
Stopped by the Field to set some things up and grabbed a few shots while we were there. Its quite a hike from the tent line to the flight line this year. The pics below were taken by George.
Here is something you do not get to see often. Me taking a shot. The pic to the Left george took and the pic to the RIGHT is the shot I took while george was shooting me a sliver of a fraction of a second later :-) neat!
I am inside the tent attaching the velcro to the frame. This is two shots I stitched together to make a nice panaramic shot.
