Imagination CelebrationAs NARAM celebrates its 50th anniversary, the Imagination Celebration will be celebrating its 5th. Think about the things you brought to life that first year: Kevin Johnson's sky-filling maelstrom of gliders, Marc McReynolds' silvery streamers, George and Bob's super shuttle and that massive loop by Keith Vinyard. Remember the years that followed, replete with spectaculars by Jim Flis, Doug Hilson's advanced projects and Matt Johnson's fabulous fantasies. If any of this conjures up fond memories, then the Celebration has done its job -- bringing the people who create spectacular flights together with the people who enjoy them. The magic only happens when both groups show up, and that's what we're asking you to do again this year. We're also putting out a special invitation to everyone who has flown in the Celebration before. We want to see you all fly again this year, whether you reprise the flight that dazzled us all before or shock us with something all new. If you've never flown in the Celebration, though, we're just as enthused to see you. All you have to do is follow the guidelines below. We hope these guidelines don't limit you, but rather inspire you. GuidelinesThe Imagination Celebration is for entries that include at least one flying model, which shall be subject to all safety rules imposed by the range safety officer at the NARAM sport range, and must be legal to be flown during periods with no HPR waiver. The object is to use all the technologies of model rocketry to produce motion, shapes, light, sound and color in the sky in a manner pleasing or otherwise emotionally moving to human observers on the ground. You might say you are trying to create a sky show, or perhaps sky art. These three characteristics are always valued: Size/Visual Impact - How visible is it? Does it jump out at the viewer or do you have to squint to see it? Showmanship/Artfullness - Is it exciting? Is it beautiful? Does it elicit emotion, sensation, entertainment or humor? Originality - Was it obvious? Whether you watch or fly, your job is equally important. Let's add to that stockpile of memories we've been building for the last five years. |
