"CO. Fires" |
I've been keeping an eye to the information about the fires in
Colorado this season. It's nice to hear that they are, for the most
part, contained. However, I am concerned about the possibility that
there might be no NARAM due to how dry the area is and how prone to
fire. I'm not familiar with Mr. Estes' property, so I would appreciate
any feedback on how likely it would be that NARAM would be literally
burned out.

We are also concerned about the dry conditions we've had this
spring. The good news it that it looks like we will get some moisture
this week. It's rained the last couple of days and more is predicted.
It's very welcome indeed.Because Colorado is normally a fairly dry
place, we decided early in the NARAM planning process that we needed to
have the local fire dept involved with the launch. They will have both a
fire truck and a brush truck on site, which should be adequate for all
but the worst of conditions. If NARAM had been scheduled for this week,
the launch would have been a go, even before the rain. If conditions
do get worse, the fire dept has the final say of course, but we are
optimistic the launch will proceed as planned.

when was the fire ban lifted. I am guessing if NARAM had been
scheduled the week before you say, it would have been canceled, correct?

>So when was the fire ban lifted. I am guessing if >NARAM had been scheduled the week before you >say, it would have been canceled, correct?Short
answer: The fire bans are still in effect, but the conditions have not
been bad enough at the site during the ban to cancel the launch,
assuming the fire fighting gear was on-site as we've planned. Longer
explanation: The fire ban(s) are not statewide. It is up to the local
authority, city, county, etc. In Colorado Springs at least, both county
and city restrictions are still in effect, but you can work with the
local authority. For example, my local club held a build session and
launch last week for a group of 40 C.A.P cadets. We asked for
permission to hold the launch, a fire inspector came out to the site and
laid out some common sense rules, gave us a permit and we had a launch.
We had voluntarily canceled our club launch the weekend before, but
the C.A.P. event was important enough for us to make the extra effort.
For NARAM, because we have been working with the local fire depts and
plan to have their fire fighting equipment on the range, we expect to
have the launch as scheduled. Mark
