"Calling Superroc Gurus" |
Building myself a sport-flying superroc (2.1" x 150",
paper/glue reinforced tubing, balsa reinforced couplers, Econojets for
power), and information beyond "strong tubes, strong couplers" is few
and far between. Any hints from the masters that are beyond the basics
but not considered contest winning secrets? -Beanboy

I'm by no means a 'guru' - I've flown the event once. But it is a fun event The
models that seemed to do best (not mine), were minimum diameter - some
made from graphite or fiberglass for strength and light weight. Minimum
diameter also means the diameter of an Apogee Dx - rather than the Estes
Dxx. That seemed to make a huge difference - the long burn of the
Apogee engines put those models much higher than mine. I did see
someone with a great flight that took a different approach. A minimum
'length'/minimum diameter. I think it would have been a record if the
chute didn't come off. Good luck - I'm sure you'll get some more information from those more experienced. Jeff
